"Russel Rd." 5-25-10

Gravel on the pavement,
You're asking me to walk away,
Sleeping in my Willow Tree,
Russel said he'd come today,
Flirting with the branches as you're laying down in melted tar,
Breathing in it's poison,
Who the hell am I to say who you are?

Love me now?
I loved you then...
Saxophone to my ears
Your letters to my lips again
Walking down Russel Rd. with my men
Love me now?
I loved you then...
Your letters to my lips
Lights a candle to my hips again
And I'm walking down Russel Rd. with my men
But I loved you then.

Miles take the best of me and your still reading yellow lines,
Honeysuckle diaries, Borsalino hats, and stop signs
Dust on Russel's car leaves behind a trail of Why's
Willow tree and your house key...
Louisiana's hot in July

You say...
Love me now?
And...

I loved you then...
Saxophone to my ears
Your letters to my lips again
Walking down Russel Rd. with my men
Love me now?
I loved you then...
Your letters to my lips
Lights a candle to my hips again
And I'm walking down Russel Rd. with my men
But I loved you then.

Slow jazz fights the melody,
Eyes dilated to see all that you are,
Lovemenow you say to lonely nights in my Willow Tree,
Russel said he wasn't far ...

So please lovemenow
I loved you then...
Saxophone to my ears
And your letters to my lips again
Walking down Russel Rd. with my men
And I loved you then
So lovemenow
Because I loved you then
And your letters to my lips
Lights a candle to my hips again
As I'm walking down Russel Rd. with my men
My 3 men
But I loved you then...

  3. this sounds like someone waiting for someone to come back to them. THey love the memory of being in love with that person even though they are not in love with them anymore. They are waiting for them to come anyway. The willow tree represents sadness and lonliness. You read old letters and old memories remembering all that you once felt. You are walking with your three men. You are really by yourself walking with your past loves memories waiting for "him" to come back but he never does so you walk alone.

  4. wow, mom...I love your interpretation so much...I kind of don't even want to tell you the real perspective of this song lol.

I'll tell you the some of the symbolism though:
the Willow Tree represents my family tree

Russel Rd. represents my families history from past to present

and Russel represents the part of me that is getting to know about my own family, identity, heritage, etc.

you were right about the three men....they represent my 3 relationships.

Take another whack at it if you want... :)

  5. very deep! I like it. I was confused about the Russel Rd part because I knew it had to represent family somehow but didnt know how that would fit. Willow trees usually represent sadness. But I knew it was your FAVORITE tree so it threw me off. (you should write a poem about your favorite flower by the way, you know the one...in braveheart, what are they called? SOme kind of thistle flower. That would make an interesting poem for you. What also threw me off at first was your "3" men. At first all I could imagine was your 3 men as in Dad, Chandler, and Sawyer...family, but the romantic part let me know I was wrong about that and It must rep. your 3 loves....Ill try again later!
