[Verse 1]
Paint me a red rose covered in vines
Then you will see where my love truly lies
Beneath the vines, This love of mine
This love of mine
Sing to me softly as I drift asleep,
Dreaming of him, Will his memories never leave?
Tattooed to my mind
Like your heart tattooed to my soul...
[Bridge]
I traveled a year through his secrets,
Yours are a lifetime, I know
Tasted the pain on his dry lips
I drank my red wine alone
Then you will see where my love truly lies
Beneath the vines, This love of mine
This love of mine
Sing to me softly as I drift asleep,
Dreaming of him, Will his memories never leave?
Tattooed to my mind
Like your heart tattooed to my soul...
[Bridge]
I traveled a year through his secrets,
Yours are a lifetime, I know
Tasted the pain on his dry lips
I drank my red wine alone
[Chorus]
Embellished in scars
I wear the jewelry of pain
Decorates my neck like an old man's cane
And I'm covered in vines, This love of mine
Covered in vines
[Verse 2]
Write me a poem of love and love lost
Deep in the woods, I'm buried in frost
And I'm I'm covered in vines
This love of mine, This love of mine
Sail me to sea to some unknown land
Reminisce silky waters, red sun and cool sand
He tattooed to my mind
He tattooed to my mind
Like your heart tattooed to my soul...
[Bridge]
I traveled a year through his secrets,
Yours are a lifetime, I know
Tasted the pain on his dry lips
I drank my red wine alone
Yours are a lifetime, I know
Tasted the pain on his dry lips
I drank my red wine alone
My dress left unsewn...
[Chorus]
Embellished in scars
I wear the jewelry of pain
Decorates my neck like an old man's cane
And I'm covered in vines, This love of mine
Covered in vines
[Chorus]
Embellished in scars
I wear the jewelry of pain
Decorates my neck like an old man's cane
And I'm covered in vines, This love of mine
Covered in vines
[Music Break / Build]
Braid my hair,
Let all the broken pieces
Let all the broken pieces
Fall to the floor,
Tie it up with a bow,
Touch every tangle and twirl,
Of this tainted girl...
[Chorus]
Embellished in scars
I wear the jewelry of pain
Decorates my neck like an old man's cane
And I'm covered in vines, This love of mine
Covered in vines
I wear the jewelry of pain
Decorates my neck like an old man's cane
And I'm covered in vines, This love of mine
Covered in vines

alright, for my interpretation...
ReplyDeleteI think that the first stanza of this poem talks about covering something up that is supposed to be beautiful. Having to paint something red that is already naturally supposed to be that color is like saying that even though it should be a certain color, it isnt, because of something. Like having a side of you that is hidden, but you are playing off to be genuine. Having this front covered in thorns entails some sort of protection to the rose, whether or not it be genuine.
The second stanza I think is more directed towards me. Recalling the time that I sang to you, or maybe it is a metaphor for the conscious transcending into the subconscious, like a truth that has become a reality to you. For example, a realization of love or something found. Having me fill your dreams like someone that has become paramount to your mind.
I'm reluctant on trying to tackle the third stanza. I think that it opens with your rule of dating someone for only a year, and how it applies to our relationship. It foreshadows into saying that after a year has passed, you find that you still don't know as much as you want to know from me, and maybe you want more. I think that the pain on my dry lips refer to me being insatiable to you, and how much i will be wanting more of you. The last line states that you wouldnt be this way, and that you would hope to be satisfied with me. I think the color red (in the wine) is a key that symbolizes blood, and in this case refers to regret or some sort of pain that was shed on your part in having to let me go.
I think the fourth stanza reads with sarcasm. To be embellished in something denotes beauty and is to some extent a garnish to behold. Being embellished in scars, however, is like a slap in the face to the passersby. I think that you wearing the jewelry of pain means that you willingly chose to put this on for yourself, and you have come to a realization that it has brought you sorrow. To have yourself covered in vines, though, is like saying that the one thing that was protecting your rose (in the beginning of the poem), is now constricting you, causing you pain. Your love is being constricted by you, by choice.
ReplyDeleteThe fifth stanza i think is about being lost in your own thought. You want an outside perspective on what you have and what you had. You're deep in the woods. An old saying says that the furthest you can go in the woods is halfway. I think that you are torn between loves, or something that is in your love life. You are indecisive about something in your life, and you have been torn for so long, that the seasons have changed on you, and you are now in the winter, and you are buried in frost. Although, to be covered in frost means that you have been long overdue for some kind of action. You are covered in vines and constricted, all by choice. And this is your love, and the love you have chosen to make it.
The sixth stanza, I think is a reference to Paraguay and the invitation that I gave you to come with me. You want something to take your mind off of the last time that the "hot sand that touched my [your] feet" Refering to a beach in Brazil. The day that he touched all my reason means that you aren't convinced by anything or that you have run past the thought many times, and came to a conclusion after it having run past your full attention.
Braid your hair...refering to smooth hair which was a part of my dream, meaning happiness. Letting the broken pieces fall to the floor can mean that some part of you is unsettling and noncommittal to being happy with the one that is braiding your hair (me). "Tie it up with a bow, touch every tangle and twirl of this tainted girl". You want your happiness to be noticed and to expose it. You want to relish in your happiness, but at the same time, you recognize that you are tainted. Maybe by choice, or because you don't want to renew yourself. Tainted is defined as having been corrupt or touched by rot and decay. So this process wasn't overnight, but was brought on over time.
paint you a red rose.... you want something that looks beautiful to compare yourself to, soemthing that you can aspire to be. Untethered, and free to behold at a distance.
The red rose at the beginning of the poem, represents her love and the vines represent all the things in her life that have hindered her ability to love, or trust love, or believe in love. It's her protection but not necessarily by choice. The vines have grown to surround her over the years, constricting her.
ReplyDeletethe "him" brought up is referring to her previous lover. she talks about the pain in their relationship and also her inability to let the relationship die completely bc she is over analyzing the way that it ended.
she is truly in love with the "you" (her current lover) that she so often refers to. this she makes clear when saying "tattooed to my mind like her heart tattooed to my soul" (the relationship with the previous was focused on the mind and reason where as the current lover is tattooed to her soul, her heart, her emotions)
all in all the poem is about a girl who feels she has truly found love, but believes that her scarred emotional past with relationships will hinder her from being able to give the one she loves what he truly needs for a healthy NORMAL relationship and this song her outcry
